Piano Fest!
Our first Piano Fest took place in June 2012 after the late Dr. Pauline Bjorem, Director of Piano Studies at Abilene Christian University contacted us and offered to assist us in implementing a program in Stockton similar to the "Piano Fest" program at Abilene. After months of planning, we launched our fist "Piano Fest" with Dr. Bjorem as our special guest instructor, and have continued nearly every year since then. Sadly, 2016 was our first "Piano Fest" without Dr. Bjorem - she passed away in November 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Dr. Bjorem was a remarkable woman, and she was an inspiration to both students and faculty. Her constant reminder to us, "the joy is in the work", has become the mantra for The Zion Academy of Music.
Piano Fest 2018 will feature a master class by Sharon Su, and a special guest instructor - our former director, Dumisani Washington. During Piano Fest, students spend time each day in the practice lab, receive daily, one-on-one interaction with the Zion Academy piano instructors, and participate in percussion, composition and music theory classes. Piano Fest is open to all skill levels, grades 3-12.
A placement audition is required.
